We love Macy’s!

Know what’s better than a shopping trip to the mall on a Saturday afternoon?  A trip to the mall to sell Macy’s Shop 4 a Cause coupons instead!

Macy’s was gracious enough to allow Ethiopian Orphan Relief to once again sell shopping coupons on the day of the big event.  4 hours later,  the children of Ethiopia were more than $800.00 richer!

I had hoped to take pictures of the stunning sales staff hard at work, but alas, we were too busy selling coupons to eager Macy’s customers to pose for a photo op.  A big thanks to many of the members of the Night of Warmth planning committee–Abbie, Steve, Meggann, Elliott, Katie, and Emily for their mad coupon-selling skillZ.  An even bigger thank you to Macy’s for adding $800.00 to the building fund for FOVC-Ethiopia!  We’re less than $2100 from our goal, thanks to this windfall.

Looking forward to seeing FOVC-Ethiopia’s completed buildings in November,

Paige

Teacher Appreciation

A teacher affect eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.   Henry Brooks Adams

The week of May 2nd is dedicated to Teacher Appreciation Week. This is a week to thank teachers for the countless hours of dedication that they give to our children.

Many parents acknowledge this day by giving a small gift to their children’s teachers as a small way to say thank you.

I have several friends who are teachers and they all shared they love receiving the “apple” theme gifts and truly appreciate them yet the gifts that make a lasting impression are the hand written notes from the children and the gifts to charity in their honor.

While I can’t help you pick out the red apple gift, I am more then happy to help you with a in honor gift. Need some ideas? How about a brick or two or ten, a mosquito net for children in Southern Ethiopia where Malaria is a constant worry, a donation to one of our partner organizations, a set of our notecards that were created by children adopted from Ethiopia, the ideas are endless

For each gift given we would love to email/mail a card to the teacher that a gift has been made in their honor.

  • $10 will provide 2 mosquito nets
  • $15  for a set of note cards (8 images)
  • $5 will provide 10 bricks
  • $10 will provide 20 bricks
  • $15 will provide 30 bricks

If you would like to make a donation for this project please click here and specify which item you would like to purchase.

handmade hope

This is the logo to my friends’  brand new Etsy shop.  This talented group of ladies produces fabulous handicrafts.  Unlike most Etsy shops, 100% of the proceeds from each sale will benefit a charity.  Lucky us, they chose Ethiopian Orphan Relief as the first quarter recipient!

Every bit of money raised through the handmade hope shop will go toward meeting the “Buy a Brick, Build a Legacy” goal of 100,000 bricks for FOVC.  This week is handmade hope’s inaugural week . I hope you’ll join me there to make it a grand success!

Thank you, ladies, for finding an amazing way to share your talents with others.  We are so lucky to know each of you.

Another fundraising opportunity for us: Macy’s Shop for a Cause

Looking for a great, easy way to help Ethiopian Orphan Relief and your pocketbook at the same time? Make a $5 donation via our Network for Good link on our website, and specify “Shop for a Cause” in the comments. I’ll mail you your Macy’s shopping pass, good for 20% off just about everything in the store on October 16th, and EOR will get to keep your $5 donation (Thanks, Macy’s!). You can use the shopping pass at any Macy’s store–or even online! Macy’s will have tons of great deals on this day, and the only coupons you can use are these, so act now!

This is Macy’s 5th Shop for a Cause, and the third for us.  Selling the coupons in the store gives EOR a great chance to  explain our mission and reach new potential supporters.  Selling the coupons online gives us a chance to reach those of you who won’t be in Columbus OH to shop at Macy’s on September 16th (that’s just a few of you, right?).
A big thank you to Macy’s for including EOR again this year!  And a huge thank you to all of you for your continuing support.  We can make an impact, $5.00 at a time!

earn more money for EOR through iGive.com

I received this today, and thought sharing would be a great idea. You can sign up for iGive.com in less than 5 minutes!

Last month, we tried something new to help Ethiopian Orphan Relief and all the causes listed at iGive. It worked better than
we ever expected. We donated over $5,000 in less than 24 hours, so we’re going to try it again!

It requires your participation, but it is free and definitely easy.

For each person who joins iGive using the special link below and does just one qualified web search on our
site between now and noon Thursday, we’ll give Ethiopian Orphan Relief a dollar.

5,000 new members, $5,000. No purchase necessary. That’s 5,000 new members for all causes, not just
yours, so it’s a bit of race.

Of course, if these new members search more (or buy something at an iGive store) they’ll earn even more
money for Ethiopian Orphan Relief. Right now, we’re donating a special $.02 per search and a
bonus $5 for that first purchase plus the usual percentage.

Here’s where you come in. The only way Ethiopian Orphan Relief will get new supporters and that free $1 (or more)
is if you invite them. Send your friends, family, and colleagues the following link in an e-mail, tweet it, do a
Facebook posting, put up posters, shout from mountain tops (you know the drill) and let them know you think
Ethiopian Orphan Relief is pretty cool and deserves their support, especially since it’s free! You can even just forward
this e-mail.

This is the link:
http://www.igive.com/welcome/warm_reg…

We’re really proud of our search capability, powered by Yahoo! We’ve made tons of improvements over the
past five months, so we want lots of people to try it out and put it to the test. If they keep on searching or
shopping after testing us out, so much the better for Ethiopian Orphan Relief.

The details:
Offer active between now and 11:59 a.m., January 21, 2010 (Chicago time).
– New members only (never have been an iGive member previously). All the normal rules of membership, searching, and
purchasing apply, our site has the details.
– Once we’ve given away $5,000 in total, the offer ends.
– The special link is important. No link, no qualified web search, no $1.

Please, please, please, PLEASE consider joining. We could do a lot with some extra cash

worth sharing…

I thought I’d post this email I received just a few minutes ago.  It’s worth a look, and could be a worth a good bit more if we act on it.

iGive (.com) therefore I am…

igive234x60b

If you’re like me, money, even for things you really care about, is in short supply. Many of you tell us that you’d like to donate more to EOR, but you just don’t have the extra cash. IF you find yourself in this position, a nice way to donate to Ethiopian Orphan Relief, inc. without sending dollars directly is by joining iGive.com. Turn your everyday online purchases into donations for Ethiopian Orphan Relief, inc. Support EOR with a portion of each purchase at over 700 online stores, just by shopping through iGive.com. iGive is a free service for shoppers and the causes they support. You should also try the sister-site iSearchiGive.com and raise money for EOR every time you search the web. Every search yields a penny or two, and those can add up fast!

Mission: Change online shopping (and searching)…for good! Products: The iGive.com Mall features over 700 online stores including eBay, Expedia, Sephora, Staples, NORDSTROM, Best Buy, Banana Republic, PETCO, iTunes Store, Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret, and hundreds more. New stores are added every week, and they’re happy to take your suggestions. For a complete list of participating stores, visit: http://www.iGive.com/shop.

To join iGive.com to benefit EOR (and receive a 5.00 donation bonus the first time you shop) : www.iGive.com/EOR

To join iSearchiGive: www.iSearchiGive.com/EOR

Most of the online stores I visit are on iGive, so I make money for EOR doing what I’d do anyway. It’s win-win. I made a bet with a certain friend of EOR that we’d have 50 new iGive members listed before the end of October. When this happens (notice, I say when, not if, because I am confident!) I will donate an additional 50.00 to EOR (again with the winning).

Our Vice-President, the multi-talented Kim Pasion is among other things, a world class shopper!  She starts every online shopping session at iGive, careful to add her shopping donation to all of her other generous gifts to EOR.  She’s putting the finishing touches on her holiday shopping (see, what’d I tell ya–world class) and has garnered all sorts of donations from many different stores, including Kodak and Amazon.

There are SO many ways to give to the various programs of EOR.  Please consider adding this one to your roster.

Thanks,

Paige

Once you join (and you know you’re going to), drop us a comment so we can add you to our ever-growing list of supporters.

Keen Shoes Rock! 1,500 pairs of shoes donated

Keen Shoes Rock!!! EOR has a wonderful volunteer here in Portland that has given many hours of her time collecting shoes for Ethiopia. She has had collection boxes located in the Portland area and she personally secured a HUGE HUGE donation from Keen Shoes! They donated over 1,500 pairs of shoes! Way to go Keen!! The shoes filled a minivan, Ford pick up and a Tahoe! She will be delivering countless suitcases of shoes when they visit Ethiopia in the near future. EOR will be delivering some of the shoes on behalf of this wonderful volunteer and Keen when we travel in December. The shoes will help girls at Children’s Heaven, Kids at SOS EE Toukoul and several orphanages! EOR is so lucky to have such amazing volunteers! Thanks to *** (she wishes to remain anonymous) for personally taking on this wonderful project! Were proud of you and all our volunteers! We all think Keen Rocks!! Next time your thinking of buying shoes we hope Keen is at the top of your list!! Their generosity is amazing!!
