Thank You Kelly!
Thank you Kelly from Colorado for hosting your baby shower to benefit Ethiopian Orphan Relief, Inc.’s Building Project for Children’s Heaven! Your gift will help many orphaned teenage girls make the transition to adulthood safely. Thank you for doing some “donation shopping” for the EOR webstore while in Addis as well! Congratulations to your family on your beautiful baby girl.
Thank You Maya!
Thank you Maya from Colorado for hosting your 4th birthday to benefit Ethiopian Orphan Relief, Inc.’s water filtration project at AHOPE’s Children’s Home. Your generosity will help many, many kids who are HIV+ to remain healthy.
Thank You Elliott!
Thank you to Elliott from Ohio for setting up a lemonade stand to benefit Ethiopian Orphan Relief, Inc.! The money you’ve raised has been sent to Ethiopia with Board Member Dawn and Advisory Board Member Krista and used to purchase children’s clothing and jewelry to stock our online store, which will launch in mid-August. All proceeds from the store will benefit our programs!
Thank You Anthony!
Thank you to Anthony in Oregon for choosing to have his 8th birthday party be a benefit for Ethiopian Orphan Relief, Inc. Anthony chose to ask for donations of art supplies for the Toukoul Orphanage, where his sister Annie lived. The supplies were recently brought over to Ethiopia by our Advisory Board member Krista, as she travelled to bring home her beautiful daughter Eden. The art supplies were used by the children at Toukoul in an art clinic, and the finished works of art were brought back to Oregon. At our Board Meeting next week, we will be selecting from these works of art (and those submitted by your children who are already home!) for inclusion in our first series of greeting and note cards, which will be for sale in our website store in mid-August. Thanks again for your generosity, Anthony! Your gift will have a lasting impact on our programs.

Partner Organization: Children’s Heaven
Ethiopian Orphan Relief, Inc. is pleased to announce its partnership with Children’s Heaven.
Children’s Heaven is a non-profit organization committed to serving teenaged girls who have been orphaned due to HIV/AIDS, and to help meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of these vulnerable children.
Children’s Heaven believes it is necessary to create an environment of hope and respect for teenaged girls, where they can have the opportunity to achieve their full potential and provide practical tools for positive change in their lives. Orphaned teenaged girls are perhaps the most vulnerable segment of Ethiopian society, because they are at a higher risk of sexual assault or rape, and they are most susceptible to HIV/AIDS.
If raised in an environment that will help them develop a positive self-esteem, achieve the means to financial independence and educate them in HIV prevention, these girls can have an enormous positive effect in Ethiopia. The primary goal of this program is to prevent HIV/AIDS transmission among vulnerable teenage girls by empowering them to rise above their current situation.
Ethiopian Orphan Relief will be raising money for a facility to house Children’s Heaven. If you’d like more information, please visit our website at www.ethiopianorphanrelief.org or email us at info@ethiopianorphanrelief.org.
Partner Organization: Toukoul/SOS EE
Ethiopian Orphan Relief, Inc. is pleased to announce its partnership with Toukoul/SOS EE.
The Toukoul Orphanages in Addis Ababa are part of the SOS/EE network of orphanages throughout Ethiopia. Toukoul works with the following American adoption agencies: Adoption Avenues, AFAA and Dove Adoptions.
Toukoul 1 and Toukoul 2 house and care for children from age 0-14, while proposing them for adoption when fitting. 350 children are admitted per year. Toukoul 3 houses and cares for children less than 2 years old who are HIV +. Approximately 25 children are cared for each year.
Other SOS/EE programs include a Vocational Training and Production Center for youth over 14 years old (children live in foster families, attend school and receive job training to help bring them financial independence), Aware Program (sponsors children and families, including job training for mothers and Kindergarten for children), Cereal Production Farm (admits youth after Vocational Training), Horticultural Farm (admits youth after Vocational Training) and the Garage (admits youth after Vocational Training).
SOS/EE also includes 18 satellite orphanages around Ethiopia that each house approximately 50 children who are in the process of being admitted to the main Toukoul orphanages in Addis Ababa. Children usually stay in these satellite orphanages for 3-4 weeks before being transferred to Addis Ababa. HIV + children over the age of 2 currently remain in the satellite orphanages, pending completion of the new, larger Toukoul 3.
Ethiopian Orphan Relief will be building a playground at Toukoul, which will be named after Sayre Grimm. Sayre was adopted from Toukoul in 2007 and came home to a loving family in Portland, OR. He passed away in a tragic accident at 15 months old. If you would like more information about Toukoul/SOS EE, please visit our website at www.ethiopianorphanrelief.org or email us at Danielle@ethiopianorphanrelief.org.
Partner Organization: Children’s Home Society and Family Services
Ethiopian Orphan Relief is pleased to announce its partnership with Children’s Home Society and Family Services.
Children’s Home Society & Family Services (CHSFS) is an adoption placement agency that works with Ethiopian orphans, and houses these children at a private care house facility in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Some of their humanitarian projects include:
Hope for Hossana: A project aimed at helping the people of Hossana and the surrounding communities by providing essential support such as healthcare and education. As part of the project, a school will be built featuring classrooms, water filtration, a lunch/food program, sanitation facilities and a library.
Ottoro School: A project that will help families stay together by providing them with education and clean water.
Sipara Mother and Child Health Center: A health center located in Addis Ababa that provides community-based medical care to disadvantaged and underserved women and children. Services include outpatient services, prenatal care and education, inpatient services, delivery, biomedical lab testing and newborn immunizations. Sipara has served thousands of Ethiopians since it began services in October 2007. Sipara will partner with the University of Minnesota’s Global Pediatrics Fellowship Program and International Adoption Clinics.
Ethiopian Orphan Relief will be raising money for a sanitation system at CHSFS’ Hope for Hosanna School. If you’d like more information, please visit our website at www.ethiopianorphanrelief.org or contact us at Jane@ethiopianorphanrelief.org.
Partner Organization: AHOPE for Children
Ethiopian Orphan Relief, Inc. is pleased to announce its partnership with AHOPE for Children.
AHOPE for Children’s mission is to serve the children of Ethiopia, with a primary emphasis on caring for orphans infected with HIV.
In the Children’s Homes, 100 orphans receive ARV (anti-retroviral) medications and a balanced diet, while under the care of a staff pediatrician and nurse. They attend school, receiving a good education with enrichment activities. AHOPE provides areas for children to play outdoors, and the children receive individualized attention in a cheerful, nurturing environment. Over 37 children from AHOPE’s children’s homes have been adopted.
Through AHOPE’s Child Development Center and Community Outreach Program, orphaned children are able to remain with their extended families and their culture. The children in the program receive food, clothing, psycho-social support and education. AHOPE also offers medical care, including anti-retroviral therapy. Guardians of the children receive family training in nutrition, hygiene and care of HIV-infected persons. In addition, AHOPE provides full day-care, as well as before and after school programs. Ongoing training for families and the community promotes sensitization to issues surrounding HIV, community cohesiveness and mobilization. AHOPE seeks to overcome the stigma associated with HIV to build strong and involved communities.
Ethiopian Orphan Relief, Inc. will be raising money for a water filtration system at AHOPE’s Children Home.
